A Turnkey Solution for 3PL Service Providers
HONG KONG, Oct 2004 -- In recent years, the world-leading retail company, Wal-Mart lead in the extensively adopted Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), strengthening the relationship between the company and the logistic industry. Currently, the applications of RFID are limited mainly in demonstrating the real-time visibility of logistic and lack of integrated solutions. Thus, the emphasis has been placed on how to imply the applications of RFID to third party logistics and the supply chain management of manufacturing industry.
The chairman of a Hongkong listed electronics factory pointed out that, the time from taking an order to finishing the whole production process has been shortened to about 2 weeks. However, sea transportation takes up several weeks to arrive in the ports in Europe and U.S. Reducing stocks as well as shortening time in sales, production and transportation are the actual needs of Hong Kong factories. Besides taking up the role of transportation, the logistic industry is also known as the "Manager of Virtual Warehouse". In fact, the problem of long transportation time can be solved by extending the stock categories on board. For those customers with urgent plans in deciding product styles and delivery points, the Sense-and-Respond?/a> could help in providing a flexible strategic solution, managing the goods appropriately according to the requests of buyers and sellers.
e-jing Technologies Limited, a spin-off from The Chinese University of Hong Kong, developed the Sense-and-Respond?Supply Chain Management System which integrates RFID and the supply chain management system, enhancing the control, planning and application of the operation to entirely improve the supply chain. The Sense-and-Respond?Supply Chain Management System was successfully adopted by various listed companies, for instance, Orient Power. The system is especially designed for the third logistic party to integrate suppliers, manufacturers and customers, thus developing new business chances.
