IBM and ASL Group expand partnership to boost Hong Kong software industry

HONG KONG, Sep 14, 2004 -- IBM China/Hong Kong Limited and Automated Systems Holdings Ltd (the ASL Group, HKEx 771) today announced stepped-up support for Independent Software Vendors (ISVs) based in Hong Kong. This will be delivered through the first IBM Business Partner Innovation Center (BPIC) in Hong Kong SAR – the second to be launched in Asia Pacific this year.

Operated by the ASL Group’s subsidiary ELM Computer Technologies Limited (ELM), an IBM Software Value-Added Distributor, the BPIC offers a comprehensive range of ISV support services – including software design and coding practices consulting, proof-of-concept, prototyping, porting, testing and training. It will also provide sales and marketing support to help local ISVs embrace new technologies and address emerging opportunities in Hong Kong and China. Located in ELM’s Shatin office, the BPIC is equipped with racks of IBM eServer systems, providing a complete enterprise-grade technical environment for customers to "test-drive" local ISV solutions based on IBM middleware and running on Linux, Unix and Windows platforms.

As well as providing access to the latest application, collaboration and database servers, the center helps ISVs improve their software development capabilities and incorporate leading-edge system, storage and security management technologies into their solutions. ELM and IBM have an established record in helping foster ISV innovation, including e-jing Technologies' Sense-and-Respond™ Supply Chain Management Solution . Under the new BPIC pilot programme, ELM is currently helping to incubate two new ISV solutions that will leverage IBM's industry-leading middleware.
